Restore Your Hair Naturally with an Old School Hair Mask

Are you tired of the damage from coloring and bleaching your hair? I’ve been there too, and I’m turning back to some of my natural DIY remedies that have always worked wonders for my hair. Today, I’m sharing an old school protein hair mask recipe that I’ve started using again to help restore my hair’s health and strength.

Why Use a Protein Hair Mask?

When you bleach your hair, you’re stripping away essential proteins, leaving it weak and prone to breakage. This DIY protein hair mask helps replenish those proteins naturally, giving your hair the nourishment it needs to stay strong and healthy.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Mayo

  • 1 Avocado

  • 1 Egg

  • 2 tsp Honey

  • 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

Benefits of Each Ingredient:

  1. Mayo: Made from egg yolks and oils rich in amino acids, mayo is a fantastic conditioner that strengthens your hair.

  2. Avocado: A natural conditioner, avocado is loaded with protein, amino acids, and vitamins that promote hair growth, restore shine, and rejuvenate your hair and scalp

  3. Egg: Egg proteins act as a reparative treatment for hair, preventing breakage and reviving chemically treated hair

  4. Honey: With its antibacterial and antifungal properties, honey helps prevent dandruff and other scalp conditions while promoting hair growth

  5. Coconut Oil: Coconut oil strengthens, thickens, and hydrates your hair and scalp

How to Make and Use the Protein Hair Mask

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a blender, mix the mayo, avocado, egg, honey, and coconut oil until you have a smooth, creamy consistency.

  2. Apply to Hair: Apply the mask generously to your hair, starting from the roots and working your way to the tips.

  3. Let It Sit: Cover your hair with a shower cap and let the mask sit for 30-45 minutes. For deeper conditioning, you can wrap a warm towel around your head.

  4. Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the mask out thoroughly with lukewarm water, followed by your regular shampoo and conditioner.
